Our DevOps team plays a key role in ensuring that the systems we build for our clients are reliable, scalable, and ready to support real-world business challenges. To give you a short glimpse behind the scenes, we sat down with two of our engineers, Olegs and Karolis, to talk about their daily work, the tools they trust, and what makes our DevOps culture interesting.
Every task is an investigation
For Olegs, no two days look the same. Some mornings start quietly, others begin like the first page of a detective novel.
“Every task can become an investigation, you never know how deep the rabbit hole is until you pull a thread,” he says. “Or you might end up with some routine, while expecting an adventure. The combination of variability and responsibility is both the challenge and the fun part for a problem-solving mindset.”
At Present Connection, DevOps engineers often wear many hats. One moment they’re automating processes, the next – improving systems or keeping an eye on what’s happening across the infrastructure.
Technology that keeps systems alive and reliable
Our DevOps team operates close to SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) principles. According to Olegs, their toolkit spans a wide variety of monitoring tools. Some open source, some third-party, and even a few developed in-house.
On the DevOps side, the team relies on familiar, industry-standard technologies such as Kubernetes, Ansible, ArgoCD, and CI/CD platforms like GitLab and Jenkins.
Karolis adds that Infrastructure as Code is at the heart of their work:
“It ensures consistency, repeatability, and scalability across environments. I work with Kubernetes for container orchestration, Ansible for automation and configuration management, and Jenkins to manage CI/CD pipelines. Together, these tools help maintain reliable and efficient deployments in our on-prem datacenter environment.”
The best part of the job
When asked about his favorite moment of the day, Karolis shares:
“It’s when a deployment goes smoothly and without hiccups because I set everything up correctly.”
It’s that quiet, rewarding moment when everything just works.
